Performance and Storage

Use this page if OMN4 feels slow, maps take longer to open than expected, or your device is running out of space.

Quick Wins

  1. Close other heavy apps.
  2. Restart the device.
  3. Check the device has enough free storage.
  4. Open Map Management.
  5. Remove downloaded map data you no longer need offline.

What to expect: removing offline map data frees space on this device. It does not remove your account or synced personal data.

Storage Tips

Downloaded maps can be much larger than routes, tracks, waypoints, and settings.

  • Keep only the map types and areas you actively use on that device.
  • Use Storage in Map Management to review map storage.
  • Use secondary storage features where supported if your main device storage is tight.
  • Keep frequently used maps on faster local storage where possible.
  • Remember that sync does not copy offline map downloads between devices.

If Performance Drops After Moving Data

Some storage locations are slower than others. If map opening, search, or Map Management feels sluggish after moving data, try keeping frequently used content on faster local storage.

Why Size Totals Can Differ

The storage total on disk and the sum of individual map sizes are not always the same. Some downloaded areas can share underlying map data.

That means:

  • adding a nearby area may not increase storage by the full listed size
  • removing one area may not free the full listed size
  • Storage is the best place to check the actual space used on the device
