Download Maps
Use this page when you want to save map data on your device before a trip or for places where you may lose signal.
Before you start
- Add the area you want in Map Management under My Areas.
- Make sure you have enough storage space for the download.
- On iPhone and Android, check Settings > Data if downloads are not starting as expected.
Download a whole map
- Open the map screen, then choose Map Management.
- In My Areas, expand the area you want.
- Select the map type you want to save.
- Use Download All in the toolbar.
On some rows, the menu also offers Download for the full map.
Use this when you want everything OMN4 currently offers for that map and area.
Download part of a map
- Open Map Management.
- Select the map you want under My Areas.
- Use the map to select the coverage you want.
- If needed, choose Fit to coverage so OMN4 jumps to that map's available area.
- Use Download Selected.
Use Clear if you want to remove the current selection and start again.
What to expect after you queue a download
- The queue bar at the top shows the total queued size.
- A queued item shows a dot in the list.
- Active work shows a spinner or a remaining size such as
1.2 GB left. - Very large downloads can take time to prepare before downloading starts.
OMN4 queues downloads, so work may continue for a while after you choose the action.
If the action says update instead of download
If a row shows Partial Outdated or Downloaded Outdated, OMN4 has older downloaded data for that map.
In that case you may see:
- Update All
- Update & Download All
Use those actions when you want OMN4 to refresh older stored data before or while adding the missing coverage.
If downloads do not start
Check these first:
- On mobile, Settings > Data > Map Download may be set to Disabled.
- If Map Download is set to WiFi Only, queued downloads may wait until WiFi is available.
- If another map operation is already running, OMN4 may make you wait for that to finish.
If OMN4 is waiting for WiFi in Map Management, the panel can show Waiting for WiFi... while queued downloads remain pending.
Expected result
When the download completes, the map row should move toward On device, and the stored size in Map Management should increase.
Once the map is on your device, OMN4 can keep using that downloaded data when you have a poor connection or no connection.
