Android
OMN4 on Android is designed for live outdoor use, with offline maps, GPS, tracklogs, and download controls on the device you carry with you.
What's Different On Android
- Android can run location and map-download work through foreground service paths, so you may see an ongoing notification while tracklog recording or map-download work is active.
- Background tracklog recording depends on Android location permission. For background recording, Android may require location access set to "Allow all the time".
- Android battery management can restrict background work more aggressively than desktop users expect.
- Settings > Data controls Map Streaming and Map Download, including whether downloads wait for Wi-Fi.
Android needs careful pre-trip checks if you rely on tracklogs, offline maps, or large downloads. Test the parts you need before you leave signal behind.
Setup And Platform Settings
Install OMN4 through the Google Play or install route supplied by Anquet, then sign in and let the first sync finish. The install flow is covered in Install on Android.
Grant location permission when OMN4 asks for it. If OMN4 tells you background recording needs Android "Allow all the time" location permission, follow that prompt before depending on screen-off tracklog recording. The feature-level setup is covered in GPS Setup and Tracklog Settings.
Open Settings and review the Android battery profile guidance if background tracklogs stop, pause, or miss points while OMN4 is not on screen. The Android settings may show Read More and Whitelist OMN actions. Whitelist OMN is the visible button label; the general product name in docs remains OMN4.
Use Settings > Data before large map work. If Map Download is set to WiFi Only, queued downloads can wait until Wi-Fi is available. If it is set to Disabled, download actions will not start until you change the setting. See Data Usage for the full setting behaviour.
What To Watch For
- Before a trip, open Map Management, download the areas you need, and test that they display without relying on streaming.
- For large downloads, leave OMN4 open until the queue is clearly underway or finished. Download Maps explains the queue and waiting states.
- If a tracklog stops when OMN4 is backgrounded or the screen is off, check Android location permission first, then Android battery optimisation.
- If you use removable or slower storage, large map downloads, verification, and move operations may take longer. Storage and Verification explains what OMN4 is checking and moving.
- Offline maps are managed per device. Signing in and syncing brings supported personal data to Android, but it does not automatically copy offline map files from Windows, macOS, or iOS.
