GPS Permissions on Android
OMN4 needs permission to show your position. Starting or resuming a tracklog needs background location access so recording can continue when you turn off the screen or switch apps.
Show Your Position
- Open the map in OMN4 and tap GPS.
- Allow location access While using the app when Android asks.
- Choose Precise location if Android offers a precise or approximate choice.
OMN4 waits for a usable position, then centres the map on you. See GPS Button for the searching and fix-quality indicators.
Allow Tracklog Recording
- Choose Start Tracklog from the map action menu.
- Follow OMN4's explanation of background recording.
- Set location access to Allow all the time. Android 11 and later use the app's system settings for this choice; on Android 10 it can appear in the permission prompt.
- If OMN4 shows Allow Background Recording, use Open Settings, then Permissions > Location.
- Return to OMN4 and start or resume your tracklog if it has not already started.
OMN4 requires background location permission before starting or resuming a tracklog, even if you intend to keep the screen on. The separate background permission applies on Android 10 and later. See Android's background location guidance for the differences between versions.
Change Permission In Settings
Touch and hold the OMN4 app icon, then open App info > Permissions > Location. Choose Allow only while using the app for map GPS or Allow all the time for tracklogs. Turn Use precise location on where available. Also check that the device's main Location setting is on.

Check Battery Restrictions
Location permission and battery restrictions are separate. In OMN4, open Settings > Tracklogs > Android battery profile. If Whitelist OMN is shown, use it to allow unrestricted background battery use. Follow Android battery guidance for the full steps and a screen-off recording check.
