GPS Permissions on iOS

OMN4 needs permission to show your position. Starting or resuming a tracklog needs Always location access so recording can continue when you lock the screen or switch apps.

Show Your Position

1. Open the map in OMN4 and tap GPS.
2. When iOS asks for location access, choose Allow While Using App.
3. Keep Precise Location on for accurate outdoor positioning.

OMN4 waits for a usable position, then centres the map on you. See GPS Button for the searching and fix-quality indicators.

Allow Tracklog Recording

1. Choose Start Tracklog from the map action menu.
2. Follow OMN4's explanation of background recording and allow Always access when iOS offers it.
3. If OMN4 shows Allow Background Recording with Open Settings, open Settings and set OMN4's location access to Always.
4. Return to OMN4 and start or resume your tracklog if it has not already started.

While Using the App is enough for ordinary map GPS, but OMN4 requires Always before starting or resuming a tracklog, even if you intend to keep the screen on.

Change Permission In Settings

Open iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services. Turn Location Services on, select OMN4, then choose While Using the App for map GPS or Always for tracklogs. Keep Precise Location on.

If OMN4 is missing from the list, return to the app and tap GPS to request access. Allow Once grants access for one session and may lead to another prompt later. Apple's Location Services guide explains these permission prompts; its location settings guide covers Precise Location.

Check Before A Trip

Make a short recording with the screen locked, then reopen OMN4 and inspect the track. If positions are missing, follow GPS Not Working.
