Overview

OMN4 uses GPS on mobile devices to show your live position on the map screen and to record tracklogs. This section explains setup, recording, controls, marker accuracy, and the platform limits that matter before you rely on GPS outdoors.

Important Limits

• GPS needs a device with a GPS receiver. iPhones and Android phones have one, but iPads have GPS only in their Wi-Fi + Cellular models, and some Android tablets have none. Without GPS, a device can only estimate its position from nearby Wi-Fi, which doesn't work outdoors.
• GPS doesn't need phone signal, so your position shows on offline maps anywhere you have a clear view of the sky.
• GPS and tracklog recording are mobile workflows on iOS and Android.
• On Windows and macOS, use OMN4 mainly for planning, reviewing, editing, and managing recorded data.
• Background recording depends on device permissions and operating-system rules.
• Android and iOS handle background location differently, so check the platform notes before a long day out.
