GPS and Tracklogs
Start a Tracklog
Start a tracklog when you want OMN4 to record where you have been. Tracklog recording is a mobile workflow, so do this on iOS or Android before you set off.
Before You Start
- Allow OMN4 to use location services.
- For background recording, allow Android Allow all the time or iOS Always location permission when OMN4 asks.
- Download maps for offline use if signal may be poor.
- Check Settings > GPS if you want to choose the folder used for the saved tracklog.
Start Recording
- Open the map on your phone or tablet.
- Turn GPS on if it is not already active.
- Open the map action menu.
- Choose Start Tracklog.
OMN4 then begins recording. OMN4 manages point selection automatically, so you do not need to choose a distance or time interval before starting.
While Recording
- GPS changes to a tracklog state.
- OMN4 keeps using live location.
- Dragging the map can stop automatic centring, but recording continues.
- If the map is no longer centred on you, tap GPS to recentre.
Where The Tracklog Goes
OMN4 saves the tracklog into the folder named in Settings > GPS. The default is usually a tracklogs folder, but you can change the folder before you record.
Before A Long Day Out
- Confirm GPS permission is allowed.
- Confirm background recording permission is set correctly if you plan to lock the screen.
- Confirm maps are available offline if signal may be poor.
- Test the first few minutes of recording before you leave coverage behind.
