Uninstall OMN2 or OMN3
Once you are using OMN4 on a device, you can remove OMN2 or OMN3 from it. On some devices, uninstalling the old app also removes its downloaded maps. On others, the maps stay behind and can take up many gigabytes, so this page shows you how to find and delete them.
OMN4 does not use the old app's maps or settings, so removing them does not affect OMN4.
| Device | Old app | Are the maps removed when you uninstall? |
|---|---|---|
| Windows PC | OMN2 | No. Delete them yourself. |
| iPhone and iPad | OMN2 | Yes. |
| Android | OMN3 | Usually. Check where they are first. |
| Mac | OMN3 | No. Delete them yourself. |
Before You Start
- Check that everything you want to keep is in OMN4. Open the old app one last time and let it finish syncing, then import into OMN4 anything you have added or changed since your last import. Anything still only on the device when you remove the app is lost. See When Can I Uninstall OMN2/3?
- Download the maps you need in OMN4 and check them offline. Maps downloaded in OMN2 or OMN3 do not move across to OMN4. See Map Management.
Windows (OMN2)
Uninstalling OMN2 removes the program but leaves its downloaded maps and settings on your PC.
If someone else on this PC still uses OMN2 under their own Windows account, uninstall it for yourself but do not delete the map data: everyone on the PC shares it.
Note Where OMN2 Keeps Its Data
OMN2 shows you where its files are. Write both folders down before you uninstall, because you cannot see them once OMN2 has gone.
- Open OMN2.
- Select Settings (the cogs) in the toolbar.
- Choose My Account.
- Note the folder under Your settings and database file are stored in the following directory. This is usually
C:\Users\<your name>\AppData\Roaming\Outdoor Map Navigator. - Note the folder under Your map data is stored in the following directory. This is usually
C:\ProgramData\Outdoor Map Navigator\pkgs.
If you moved your maps to another drive, the map data folder starts with that drive's letter, for example D:\ProgramData\Outdoor Map Navigator\pkgs. If it shows a network drive or another folder, that is where your maps are.
Uninstall OMN2
- Close OMN2.
- Open the Windows Settings app and go to Apps > Installed apps. On Windows 10, go to Apps > Apps & features. On older versions of Windows, open Control Panel > Programs and Features.
- Find Outdoor Map Navigator and choose Uninstall.
- If you also see Outdoor Map Navigator Prerequisites or Outdoor Map Navigator Beta, uninstall them too.
Keep OMN4 installed.
Delete OMN2's Maps
- Open File Explorer.
- Select the address bar, type the map data folder you noted, without the
\pkgson the end (usuallyC:\ProgramData\Outdoor Map Navigator) and press Enter. TheProgramDatafolder is hidden, so typing its name is the quickest way in. - Check that the folder contains a
pkgsfolder, then go back up one level. - Delete the
Outdoor Map Navigatorfolder. If Windows asks for permission, choose Continue. - If you ever moved your maps between drives, repeat these steps on the other drive, for example
D:\ProgramData\Outdoor Map Navigator.
If your map data folder was somewhere else, such as a network drive, delete the pkgs folder you noted instead.
Windows may delete a folder this large permanently rather than moving it to the Recycle Bin. If it does go to the Recycle Bin, empty the Recycle Bin to get the space back.
Delete OMN2's Settings
This step is optional. The settings folder is small, but it holds OMN2's own copy of your routes, tracks and waypoints. Only delete it once you are sure everything you want is in OMN4. If you are not sure, leave it, or first export what you need from OMN2 as GPX files.
- Open File Explorer.
- Select the address bar, type
%APPDATA%and press Enter. - Delete the
Outdoor Map Navigatorfolder.
Each person who used OMN2 under their own Windows account has their own settings folder. They need to do this while signed in to Windows as themselves.
GPX files you saved yourself, for example in your Documents folder, are not touched by any of these steps.
iPhone and iPad (OMN2)
Touch and hold the OMN app icon, choose Remove App, then Delete App. This removes OMN2 together with its downloaded maps and settings.
Do not choose Offload App in the iPhone or iPad Settings: that removes the app but keeps its maps on the device.
Android (OMN3)
Android removes OMN3's maps with the app when they are stored in OMN3's own folder, which is where OMN3 puts them, including on an SD card. Check where yours are before you uninstall.
- Open OMN3 and go to Settings > Data.
- Under Storage, note the Current location.
If the location contains Android/data/com.anquet.omn3, Android deletes the maps when you uninstall OMN3:
- If the maps are on an SD card, leave the card in the phone or tablet while you uninstall. A card that is out of the device at the time keeps the maps.
- If Android offers to keep the app's data, leave that option unticked.
If the location is anywhere else, for example a folder you typed in as a Custom location, the maps stay on the device after you uninstall. Delete that folder afterwards with your device's Files app, or by connecting the device or SD card to a computer.
To uninstall OMN3, touch and hold its icon, then choose Uninstall (on some devices, drag the icon to Uninstall). You can also go to Settings > Apps, choose the app and then Uninstall.
If you took the SD card out before uninstalling, put it in a computer and delete the Android/data/com.anquet.omn3 folder on it.
Mac (OMN3)
Dragging OMN3 to the Bin removes the app but leaves its maps and settings in your Library folder.
- Quit OMN3 and drag it from Applications to the Bin.
- In Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder, type
~/Library/Containersand press Return. - Delete the OMN3 folder. Finder may show it as
com.anquet.omn3macosinstead. - Choose Go > Go to Folder again, type
~/Library/Application Supportand press Return. If there is anOutdoor Map Navigatorfolder, delete it too. - Empty the Bin to get the space back.
GPX files you saved yourself, for example in your Documents folder, are not touched.
If You Need OMN2 or OMN3 Again
You can reinstall them from Legacy OMN2 & OMN3. If you deleted the maps, download them again in the old app after you sign in.
